There are charter flights departing
from certain cities of Europe to the neighbouring islands of Mykonos
and Santorin.
There are direct charters from
Gatwick and Manchester on Fridays (and scheduled services on
Thursdays and Sundays from Gatwick) to Mykonos and direct charters
on Tuesdays from Gatwick and Manchester to Santorini.
From there you continue to Naxos by
boat, according to the information of the next chapter.
It might be much easier though to catch a
flight from almost any big European city directly to Athens and:
a. further fly to Naxos using the
Olympic
Air
or
b. go to the port of Piraeus and then
get a boat to Naxos (daily connections), according to the information below.
To find out the exact details of all
the possible international European flights towards Greece you might use
skyscanner.
Due to the unpredictable weather
conditions on the Aegean Sea it is not advisable to plan to fly from
Athens back home the same day you arrive by boat in Athens from
the islands.
So, please, plan at least one night overstay in
Athens before your end departure date.
In Athens we can free of charge
suggest to you our favourite hotels to choose from.
After you arrive by airplane to
Myconos, Santorini or Athens there are daily boat connections to
Naxos.
Please choose exclusively between the
Blue Star and the Highspeed boats which
are very modern, safe and ultra fast vessels.
Outside the high season of July and
August there is no need to book your boat seat in advance, it is
better to buy your ticket in any travel agency near the port, right
before your departure.
This way any long delay or even
cancellation of boat travelling (mostly due to sudden changes of
weather on the open sea) will not cost you money or cause you even more
trouble than that you will already have, trying to adjust your schedule.
To find out about the boat routes so
to schedule your international flight accordingly, you may visit the
Greek Ferries.
If you decide to come to Naxos by
boat over Athens-Piraeus, you should know that you will need about
2.5 hours after landing time in the airport to
eat something on the road, reach the port of Piraeus and buy your
ticket without rush.
Every 15-30 min. depart
buses which connect the airport either with the port of Piraeus
or with the city of Athens. Alternatively, in order to reach the
port of Piraeus or any place in the city, one may use the
Metro and the
Subway,
but only between 06.30 and 19.30.
If boat travelling is not exactly
your favourite way of travelling, then the
Olympic
Air will fast ( in 45 min.) and safely bring you from
Athens to Naxos
island.
Early booking is advisable, as these
air tickets are really hard to be found, all year round. |
